Home Safety Assessment
We want to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to home safety. It only takes one fall or safety incident to completely change the course of your life and living environment.
Why Is a Home Safety Assessment a Good Idea?
Most aging adults wait too long to put long term safety measures into place, putting them at risk for an injury or fatal fall. For the cost of a safety assessment and some modifications it will cost a quarter of what it would to stay in assisted care for just one month. You are investing in your ability to stay home as long as possible.
Safety Assessments Are More Than Removing Area Rugs and Installing Grab Bars
How We Are Different
We Assess and Review the Following:
- Exterior safety (visible addresses, stable surfaces, lighting, walkways, entry safety, etc.)
- Safety plan for emergencies
- Fall risks inside and out
- Lighting inside and out
- Kitchen functionality and safety
- Fire safety
- Home technology
- Crime prevention
- We take medical conditions and pain into consideration to make appropriate modifications
- We evaluate the need for dementia safety precautions
- Collaborative modification planning
- Modification support
- Follow up
- Virtual assessments available
What Should I Expect During My Home Safety Assessment?
- We conduct a thorough walk through of the home, starting at the exterior of the home.
- As we go through the assessment process we will make notes of any safety changes that can be made.
- At the end of the assessment we will go through the assessment results and identify who will be making the necessary modifications.
- Within 48 hours you and/or your designated representative will receive a follow up action plan with the recommendations and resources. This plan will also include a checklist of the changes to ensure that no modifications are missed.
- Within approximately 2 weeks we will have a follow up phone call to answer any questions and to ensure that you are on your way to a safer home.
